All about Class 7A

“Back to Text, Simplicity with Style”

Class 7A Drama Group is a professional theatre troupe from Hong Kong, founded in 1997 as a registered charitable non-profit organization. With the aim “Back to Text, Simplicity with Style”, Class 7A Drama Group continues to produce professional performances based on outstanding texts in the last 250 years, and to develop Language Teaching or Chinese Culture related drama-in-education projects, as well as community arts programmes.

About the Playwright

yatyau (Dr. LEUNG Shing-him)

As Artistic director of Class 7A Drama Group, yatyau is a professional playwright who has written more than 80 plays. His plays are highly reputed in Hong Kong as “can explore serious philosophical themes with very entertaining stories in theatre”. He won the “Outstanding Young Playwright Award” at the Hong Kong Drama Awards. He also teaches professional playwriting courses at Hong Kong Baptist University and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

In recent years, he has become a key representative figure in cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Korean Theatre, including arranging Korean actors to perform in Hong Kong with Hong Kong actors, arranging Korean dramas to be staged in Hong Kong, and bringing Hong Kong dramas to Korea. Several plays by him have been translated into Korean and performed or showcased in Korea.
